UAB LGBT Statement from Dr. Garrison

Our Mission

The Gay/Straight Student Alliance provides a welcoming social atmosphere for those seeking friendship and support through on and off campus activities and events.

 

Additionally, the GSSA aims to aid in the further education of UAB and surrounding communities concerning the realities of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals through campus activities and panel discussions.

  • Meeting, Dan Choi, and an Announcement!

    Hello Wonderful Gay/Straight Student Alliance Members!

    Meeting Monday
    Our first meeting of the semester will be THIS MONDAY, at 4:00pm, in Hill University Center room 412. We are going to have meetings every other week, and alternate between Mondays at 4:00, and Thursdays at 6:00pm. As always, there will be food (thanks to the USGA!), and everyone is welcome!

    Dan Choi Tonight
    Don't forget to come to see Lt. Dan Choi at HUC Alumni Auditorium TONIGHT AT 8:00. BRING FRIENDS, this is a huge deal and we need to show UAB that there is a demand for this type of programming, as well as show Dan Choi our respect by packing the house!!!

    Announcement!
    It is with a sad heart that I announce that Whitney Julian has stepped down as V.P. of the GSSA. Whitney contributed a tremendous amount of hard work and enthusiasm to the GSSA, and I consider her to be one of the most important change agents at UAB in 2011.
    The Executive Board of the GSSA unanimously voted to promote Bri Bruce to the position as our new VP. Bri Bruce is a long time member of the executive board. We are so excited to have Bri as the VP, she has shown with her actions over the last year, to be committed, enthusiastic and extremely competent. If you have a chance, congratulate her (or give her your sympathy, as you see fit.)

  • Dan Choi is Coming to UAB!

    Thursday, January 26th, 2012

    NOTE: This event is FREE and Open to the public, so invite and bring your family and friends!

    An LGBT Civil Rights Hero and a former American infantry officer in the United States Army who served in combat in the Iraq war during 2006-2007. Dan Choi publicly challenged Don't Ask Don't Tell, WHILE he was active duty, and is an inspiration to us all.

    Join the GSSA at UAB, we can meet up a little bit early and sit together, I am certain this is going to be a life-changing experience.

    We will be getting together on 12/15 to celebrate the fact that we made it to the end of this semester. We will have free food (thanks to the USGA!), games, nice people, and fun!
